ABOUT ABOUT

Nonprofit Board and Director Excellence - Together we can!

❖ What’s in it for me? How does an effective board enhance the lives of current and prospective members?

The CASA of Ohio Valley Board of Directors invites other (Family and Child Service) NonProfit Boards and Directors to attend this free training opportunity!  The event is scheduled shortly after the New Year begins so that new members can also attend and make strategic planning the most effective!

Several nonprofit organizations recruit  and share Board Members from within our community.

While each organization has distinct missions, values and goals, we share the common desire to positively impact our community.  Often Board Members state they have a passion for a mission, but lack the tools they need to be effective leaders for the organizations they serve.  Understanding the roles and responsibilities of Board members, as well as the relationship to the program Director is essential to creating a dynamic and impactful organization!

Box Lunch will be provided!

Most of us join a nonprofit board because a friend asked us to. We often have only “on the job training” to learn how a board works. It’s easy to lose our initial enthusiasm over time or simply to lose sight of why we joined in the first place and burn out. It doesn’t have to be that way. It is possible for a board to support the organization, strengthen the community, and connect with needs of board members in ways that enhance each of the relationships.

This interactive session will engage the participating nonprofit board members and staff around questions of:

❖ What’s in it for the organization? How does a good board bring value to the organization?

➢ Name the fiduciary roles and primary relationships of a nonprofit board.

➢ Recognize how a nonprofit’s lifecycle stage informs the design and function of the board.

➢ Align board meeting agendas with strategic priorities to ensure the board does work that matters

❖ What’s in it for Owensboro and Daviess County? How does a board benefit the wider community?

➢ Recognize specific ways excellent boards enhance the effectiveness of the local nonprofit sector

➢ Use a collaborative continuum to identify partnership opportunities for work that matters

❖ What’s in it for me? How does an effective board enhance the lives of current and prospective

members?

➢ Connect current and prospective board member with benefits of serving on the board that

respond to personal felt needs.

➢ Design ways to invite prospective board members to join you in doing work that matters to them.
